The perfect travel partner

Winter has well and truly made itself comfortable in New Zealand. How lucky are we to have such stunningly beautiful winter landscapes, clear skies and lashings of the cleanest oxygen. But even in all its glory, we can’t help but feel that the excitement of pulling out our winter accessories has worn off, our summer tans have faded and we start to crave some good old-fashioned vitamin D. So we escape. We jump on cheap airfares and we fly to a warmer place.

Whether it’s a resort in the islands, an adventure into an intrepid place or exploring famous cities, we are faced with foreign conditions and stresses that test our skin’s adaptability. The heat of the day combined with an increased alcohol intake and outdoor activities, and let’s not forget the nice cool air-conditioned hotel rooms to escape the high temperatures, are all dehydrating. These changes make it vitally important for us to take extra precautions in taking care of ourselves and our skin, so that while you are having the time of your life, your skin is too.

Recently one of my staff spent two months travelling across seven European countries, and with so much to see in such little time, her days were jam-packed! Caylie walked numerous cities, sailed some dramatic coastlines, hopped (or sunbathed) around beaches and pools, adventured into National Parks and crossed borders in buses, ferries, planes and on foot. Of course, she was well aware, that in order to avoid coming back looking more worn out than holidayed, it was very important to give some extra love to her skin. There were two things in particular that she did to keep her skin looking great.

An absolute must was drinking plenty of water. Although it seems like a no brainer, it is surprisingly easy to get caught up in the excitement of new experiences, while forgetting to continuously sip on water, or quite easy to opt for a fruity cocktail instead. Not only do you need to be careful of the heat and those tasty drinks, but air-conditioned hotel rooms, buses and planes will also dehydrate you. The appearance of your skin reflects the overall health of your body, so when your body is not properly hydrated, it shows in your complexion.

Naturally it was also vital for her to use good skincare. When you are feeding your skin with botanical ingredients that hydrate and soften surface texture, it makes an enormous difference. Caylie was lucky enough to take away with her a ‘pre-launch’ sample of our new evolu Smoothing Body Lotion, a fabulous blend of botanical actives including Advocado Oil, Lime Oil, New Zealand Kanuka Oil, Lemon Oil, and Ylang Ylang. The product itself smells beautiful, and after a long day of walking around bustling cities, it’s ideal to help keep the skin feeling soft and refreshed. I’ve made sure the new improved formula is very quickly absorbed and non greasy, so it’s great to either pop on before bed, or even before heading out at night. The volume has been increased to a longlasting 200ml, and with its firm click-top lid, no need to worry about leakage or contents exploding on the plane. As Caylie has found, it is truly was the perfect travel partner.

She’s thrilled to know that maintaining healthy skin while on the road can be so simply achieved.
